If you’re any bit of a Cardinals fan, you have been introduced to the postseason cries of #doitfortorty and #rallysquirrel. Yes, these two loving pets have taken the hearts of Cardinal fans nationwide. Yes, @BuschSquirrel and @TortyCraig have taken over Twitter, collectively having nearly 30,000 followers. Let’s go more in depth with these fan favorites, shall we?
Meet the Rally Squirrel, @BuschSquirrel. This little guy first appeared in game 3, yet launched into stardom in game 4, where he famously ran across home plate during a pitch from Roy Oswalt to Skip Schumaker (Video). Phillies’ coach Charlie Manuel was just as upset as his pitcher, yet the little guy stayed safe, even hitching a ride with buddy Torty to Philly for game 5 tonight.
Fame has got to this furry-tailed hero. Not only are the requests for interviews backing up, (Listen to him on WIL) but the rally squirrel is the hero of a new KMOX billboard stating “Go NUTS Folks, Go NUTS!” UPDATE: found the image!
Then we have @TortyCraig, the beloved pet tortoise of fielder Allen Craigis his is popularity began prior to his furry friend, Torty has been providing insight into the Cardinals locker room since the wild card race. From his hilarious tales of Carpenter’s temper, Albert’s love of sprinkle donuts, ‘mang,’ and Berkman riding Clydsdales through the stadium, Torty has become a fan (and player) favorite.
Will these creatures bring the Cardinals luck tonight? Who knows. At least we know the team sprinkle bath was fully equip with donuts.
